Publications Tribunal

Sir, —The paper-back publication referred to by the only lady member of last Saturday night’s television panel discussion was handed to me some months ago for my perusal. The owner was a teen-ager who stated, that, in view of the criticism of his age group, he wished to draw my attention to the type of publication brought into the country by adults. The contents nauseated me. They bring down the sanctity of womanhood to a new low level. Many books written by competent medical men are available enabling parents to educate their children on sex in the correct manner. Far better to provide these at an early age than to make available, later, books written by smutty-minded “Arabian” authors. The introduction of this publication to New Zealand is an insult to women and a bad influence on young children into whose hands it may fall.—Yours, etc., BROADMINDED BUT CLEANMINDED MOTHER. August 30, 1967.
