NEW TRACK FOR SIX-DAY CYCLE RACE IN LONDON.—A final polish being given to the wooden surface of a steeply-banked curve of the track being built for the race at Earls Court on September 18. The £30,000 track, which consists of 144 sections of West African mahogany, will be “home” to the 12 British and Continental two-man teams during the race. The 24 competitors will eat and sleep in tiny cabins beside the track during the race. Although the bowl-shaped track is only 168yds in circumference, riders will cover about 2000 miles during the marathon. On the 50-degree bankings, riders will have to maintain a speed of at least 20 miles an hour to avoid falling to the bottom.
