Sixteen veteran runners, comprising two teams, whose average age is about 50, Including the Rev. J, G. Gaulter, athletics coach at St Bede’s College, will take part in this year’s 50-mile road relay race from the Takahe to Akaroa on September 9. Other runners over 40 who will represent their own clubs in the race will bring the total of runners of veteran age competing in the race to about 30. These include the former chairman of the N’.Z.A.A.A. Canterbury, centre, Mr W. Kennedy, who at 53 is capable of smin 30sec miles for a sixmile lap of the course.
