N.Z. LOAF RECORD
Scots Baker Now Leads
(W.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, August 29.
New Zealand may not have lost its loaf of bread record for long. h The 20ft sin world beater Mr R. Gilbert pulled from the oven of his Whangamata bakery back in January, 1965, has been beaten by Scotland. The London “Daily Mirror” says that the Black family bakery in Dunoon turned out an S-shaped 23ft loaf at the week-end in a tin made for the job by the local blacksmith. But Mr Gilbert is far from daunted.
Told this evening of the Scottish effort, he said he planned to have a tin made by the local plumber and to bake a loaf of over 30ft—probably for the Tauranga Orange Festival next year.
The cost of such a loaf: about $5O.
