High Standards Set In Ashburton Competitions

The third day of the Ashburton Competitions Society’s annual festival yesterday was notable for a high standard in several of the dancing and the vocal classes.

Peter Murray, of Christchurch, won several placings in the solo classes and was first in the action song for competitors under 14.

In the tap dance for girls of 10 and under 12 years, Brenda Park (Christchurch) gained 80 marks to take first placing in a class of 29.

On Tuesday evening, lola Smith, of Timaru, won the South Island Seann Triubhais championship, which was open to all ages. The McGregor Cup tap dance, for girls of 12 and over, was won by Patricia Jackson, of Ashburton, from 35 other competitors. Patricia gained 95 marks.
