Unsuccessful Search
Parties of policemen unsuccessfully searched the Brooklands lagoon, the lower Styx river, and the area about the mouth of the Waimakiriri river yesterday for David Frederick Farquharson, aged 20, of 4 Heyders road, Spencerville, who has been missing since he told his sister on Sunday night that he might go canoeing on the Styx river.
On Monday the canoe was found half full of sand, with paddles and lifebelt nearby, on the northern end of the spit between the Brooklands lagoon and the sea. The Kaiapoi Borough Council’s pilot launch was also used yesterday in the search, which will be continued today.
