(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 4. Unless immediate steps were taken to keep up with the sweeping changes taking place overseas, the New Zealand furniture industry might be out of business in 30 years, according to Mr D. Heath, president of the Society of Industrial Designers
Mr Heath told the furniture trades group of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association that there was a danger that the New Zealand market could be more cheaply supplied by highly-automated plants in the United States and Europe. Import controls, he said, could not be expected to last indefinitely.
