Rise In Job Vacancies
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 4. The number of registered job vacancies continued to rise slightly from July 14 to July 28, but the number of jobs open to men fell slightly according to figures given tonight by the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand). The figures show that the number of vacancies rose by 38 in the two-week period, and the number of job vacancies for men fell by 19. In the fortnight between June 30 and July 14, registered job vacancies rose by 76, and the number of jobs for men rose by 123. The official figures for registered job vacancies are: June 30, males 1702, females 995, total 2697; July 14, 1825 948, 2773; July 28, 1806, 1005. 2811.
Yesterday Mr Shand announced that registered unemployment had fallen slightly from 6661 at July 21 to 6294 at July 28.
