SCHOOL MUSIC CONTEST
Four Christchurch Finalists
Four Christchurch groups are among the 10 chosen to take part in the national finals of the school chamber music contest at Lower Hutt on July 30. The groups are: Christchurch Girls’ High School Trio, Harbaton Trio, Bumside High School Trio and the Pieme Trio. A record number of 84 groups entered the contest, which is being run by the Chamber Music Federation of New Zealand. The final will be judged by Mr R. Masters, leader of the Bath Festival Orchestra.
The groups will travel to Wellington on July 29 and the following day they will be guests of the N.Z.B.C. at a studio recital by Mr Masters and Janetta McStay. The winning entry in the associated programme design contest was submitted by Judy White of Tauranga. The judges, Messrs C. Firth and W. F. Barrett, decided to award additional prizes of books to Marian Fabish, of Morrinsville, and Kevin Stevenson and Billy Whyte, both of Invercargill.
