N.Z. HORSE SOCIETY
S.L Committee’s Meeting
The annual meeting of the South Island Committee of the New Zealand Horse Society was held in Waimate.
The retiring chairman, Mr J. B. Wilson (Southland area), said in his annual report: “Our main activities have been the selection and arrangements for the South Island tour of the North Island and the itinerary for the South Island show circuit." The task of selecting a team for the North Island was rather a difficult one, Mr Wilson said, because three top horses, Limelight, Treason and Morocco, were not available for selection. A loss of £167 was incurred by the South Island team on tour in the North Island although a touring team receives a grant of £250 from the New Zealand Horse Society. It could be seen that it took a considerable amount of money to finance a tour of this nature, Mr Wilson said. Election of officers resulted: President, Mr I. M. Ritchie (South Canterbuiy and North Otago area); vice-president, Mr D. Cassels (Otago area); secretary and publicity officer, Mr M. J. Leonard.
