Tino Ariki Adds To His Value

AUCKLAND.

Tino Ariki further increased his value when he won his fourth race in succession in the Avondale Futurity Handicap on Saturday with 9-7. He gave all except two or three of his 22 opponents big starts and beat them easily.

Tino Ariki’s W’eight this time was the biggest he has carried and his winning margin—two lengths and a half —was the widest he has registered. In his characteristic way Tino Ariki began slowly. He was third last in the first 100 yards. A big run on the outside took him within a few lengths of the leaders. Destry, Derby Dee, and Prosody, on the home turn and he swept past them without much difficulty. Tino Ariki is being raced by the Te Rapa trainer, W. C. Winder, on a lease from the estate of J. A. Asher.

TO BE AUCTIONED At the expiry of the lease on August 31 Tino Ariki will be sold. He will be entered for an Auckland thoroughbred sale on August 29. Also in the sale will be Rohe Potae and Haeremai, which Winder holds on the same terms.

Tino Ariki, a solid chestnut colt by Agricola from Triennial, was bought by Mr Asher against keen Australian competition for 4500gns at the Trentham Sales last year. He has now won £lB9O in stakes.

Mr G. N. Asher, of Tauranga, said that three very substantial offers had already been received for the horse, each “in the vicinity of £10,000.”

Tino Ariki was bred by Mr J. L. Macky, of the Pirongia Stud, and was offered on his account at Trentham. He is a half-brother to Cracksman (by Le Filou) and is the second foal of Triennial, a mare bred in 1949. She is by Triumvir from Princess Hilda, by Hunting Song.
