Krazikid Fit To Sprint
Krazikid sprinted with race - winning dash in training at Riccarton yesterday in preparation for the Stewards’ Handicap on the second day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting tomorrow.
Krazikid (G. R. Gullery), accompanied by Royal Blue (R. K. Moir), reeled off half a mile on the No. 1 grass in 49 4-ssec. Horses had easy footing after a shower overnight, but otherwise the conditions were sum-mer-like.
Krazikid, a close second to Time and Tide at Ashburton last Saturday week, will be ridden at Washdyke by J. R. Dowling. Krazikid s stablemate. Even Chance, which will be W. D. Skelton's mount in the Fraser Memorial at Washdyke, was paired wtih Tsunmai for a mile yesterday. They were in no tearing hurry for the first half, taking 59 l-ssec, but quickened In the straight and recorded Imin 52 4-ssec for the distance.
Sabeil <L. Carston) ran seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, finishing just ahead of Agrippa (C. Kerkvliet), which joined in the the last five furlongs.
The stablemates ran the last half-mile in 52 4-ssec
Pickawyn (F. H. Skelton) shaped well in his half-mile with Red Chips (W. H. Beck) and Royal Master (E. G. Low). Pickawyn had none the best of it in the weights, but held a slight advantage until close to the post, and recorded 50 4-ssec. Talic (B. Swete) ran his halfmile in 53 4-ssec.
The long-striding Sun Bank VC. Plowman) sprinted three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. He should be sharpened by his race at Ashburton. Conway Stewart (A. Swanson)
and Pitskelly (J. Kerkvliet) ran in from the half-mile in 53 2-5 sec. Lord Jim (W. H. Beck) picked up ground near the end to finish half a mile alongside Super Mahal (R. Murphy) in 54sec. Herndale Lad (Murphy) and Thinking (Mein) took 53 3-ssec. Shakes (A. Swanson) and Kai Bank (K. Quale) jumped surely at a solid pace in their run over five hurdles, and quick-
ened interest in their jumping debuts at Washdyke. Shakes escaped injury in his fall in the main flat race at Washdyke on Saturday. B. T. Jones will ride him in the Kerrytown Hurdles. Allegretto (Swanson) was better than Coseta (Cowles) in their schooling run over hurdles, but the efforts of both horses left something to be desired .
