MACHINERY SALE
Crowd Of 1000 Attends
More than 1000 persons attended a sale of engineering plant and machinery on Saturday. About 10 of 400 lots were passed in at the sale, which was on account of F. W. Matthews, Ltd., in receivership. The manager-receiver, Mr S. W. Bullen, said several expensive items were sold, including a machine for rolling plate, which went for £13,000. The lots passed in were in the more expensive bracket.
People from all over New Zealand attended the sale, which was one of the largest of its type held in the country. Mr Bullen said there could have been 2000 present at one time.
The auction, which was run by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., was held in Marshland road at the works site of F. W. Matthews, Ltd.
