TO SELL ELECTRA

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 2.

Air New Zealand will sell one of Its three Electras as part of the airline’s aim to have ultimately an all-jet fleet

Announcing this, the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Gordon) said the company was anxious to reduce the extra costs and complications of having a mixed fleet of aircraft.

With the delivery of the two new DCS jet airliners, now on order, the airline would be able to work with fewer Electras. Mr Gordon said that if the surplus Electra was sold now it could realise just over SUS.I million. This figure could drop sharply the longer the sale was delayed. Many airlines were likely to dispose of their Electras next year and several other types of smaller jet aircraft would soon be coming into service around the world.
