C.O.R.S.O. APPEAL

Figure Now £19,795

The Christchurch amount for C.0.R.5.0. collection on June 17 reached £19,795 on Wednesday. Last year the final figure was £21,000. The district organiser, Mr G. H. Coley, said C.0.R.5.0 was tremendously grateful, considering all the circumstances.

The economic situation had some effects, other recent appeals had been supported generously, yet his organisation still hoped to match last year’s figure. Gifts were still coming in.

This week a Halkett farmer brought in £3OO. He said Presbyterians in the district had planted four acres of potatoes for the Freedom from Hunger Campaign and this was the proceeds. A great many young children had run stalls and entertainments to raise funds and many schools were completing projects for funds. Mr Coley said one of the collectors told a story of a family of modest means who had decided to go without milk or butter for a week. They saved £2 in this way, added 10s, and presented £2 10s to the collector.
