WELLINGTON WHARVES
Major Works Proposed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 29. A bill empowering the Wellington Harbour Board to carry out major reclamation and wharf works at a cost of £5.7 million was introduced in Parliament last night by Mr D. J. Riddiford (Nat., Wellington Central). The bill would sanction the borrowing of £3.1 million, and authorises the expenditure of another £2.6 million already in reserve. The scheme includes the reclamation of six acres and wharf development works at the Taranaki street wharf; reclamation of 10 acres and the construction of a new wharf at Point Howard. It also involves the provision of a new road-rail ferry wharf, reconstruction of the dock mooring wharf, and construction of a new oil berth at Kaiwharawhara.
