CHANGES AT CORNER
Committee’s Suggestions
A stop sign in Trent road at the intersection of the Main South road, Kirk road and Trent road should be put further forward, members of the Christchurch metropolitan Road Safety Committee agreed this week. Members of the committee had inspected the intersection after a letter bad been received from the Paparua County Council seeking support for Improvements to the intersection. The council’s letter said that the Ministry of Works had taken no action on recommendations made by the Transport Department. The committee also agreed that parking near the intersection should be restricted, and the present short limited speed zone in the area should be made a 30 m.p.h. area It was decided to recommend these changes to the Paparua County Council. The district officer of the Transport Department (Mr D. L. Hogan) said there were many such intersections in Christchurch, and it was a matter of how much parking could justifiably be restricted to allow for those who proceeded from a stop sign without taking the trouble to look. He agreed that the stop sign should be moved and <t a m.p.h. limit could Ibe justified.
