OBITUARY
Mrs Craig Mrs Elsie May Craig, who died in Riccarton recently, was well known for her work for the welfare of animals. For 10 years she was a member of the Canterbury council of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. As chairman of the women’s committee of the society she led a small band of helpers in organising a stall at the Christchurch show fdr some years and raised hundreds of pounds for the socety. These efforts provided substantial sums toward the purchase of the first two animal ambulances in Christchurch. Mrs Craig cycled many miles in all weathers to arrange homes for stray animals and to tend and feed sick dogs and cats. Until ill health prevented this, she continued to place homeless animals by telephone calls from her home. Mrs Craig is survived by her husband.
