Traffic Control

Sir, —About 8 a.m. at the intersection of Division and Clarence streets and Blenheim road, I daily join the queues of cars waiting for a chance to dodge four lanes of traffic which stream down Blenheim road. At this hour of day, especially in winter months, windscreens are a little fogged and many motorists are hurrying to work. It seems to me inevitable that there will shortly be an accident at this intersection, perhaps a fatal

one. I am sure many motorists will join me in advocating a traffic officer on point duty, as is provided in the evening when the position is similai though the directions of the traffic reversed.—Yours, etc., T. G. EVISON. June 20, 1967.

[The district officer of the Transport Department (Mr D. L. Hogan) replies: “Traffic officers of this department have been on point duty at this intersection in the evenings and. in view of the volume of traffic through the intersection, a recommendation has been made to the controlling authority for the installation of traffic lights. In the meantime, however, every effort will be made to have a traffic officer on point duty in the mornings as well.”]
