Friesians Average Almost 192 Gns.

Thirty-two Friesian cattle sold at the sixth annual sale of Messrs N. J. Sherriff and Sons at Milford, Temuka, last week, fetched an average price of almost 192 guineas.

Proceeds of the sale amounted to more than 6000gns. Prices ranged up to 450 gns for bulls and to 300gns for heifers. Cattle went to all parts of the country, and 10 were bought for the North Island.

For 11 one-year-old and rising one-year-old bulls, prices ranged from lOOgns to 450gns and averaged 244gns. Two sales were made at more than 400gns. The top price of 450gns was paid for Doloraine Supreme Topper whose dam, Doloraine M.D. Vivian, was champion Friesian cow at the Royal Show in Christchurch last year. The bull was bought by the North Auckland Farmers for J. Duder jnr., of Dargaville. • For another bull, Doloraine Supreme Hero, P. Chisnall, of Nelson, paid 420gns. For 21 two-year-old or rising two-year-old heifers, values varied from HOgns to 300gns, I with four sales being made at 200gns or more.

The top price was paid for Doloraine Magic Bracelet by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, Hamilton, for R. Chynoweth. The Farmers’ Stud Stock Company, Palmerston North, bought Doloraine Burkeyje Vai for C. N. Houghton for 215gns, and E. G. Robertson

and Son, of Springston, paid 210gns for Doloraine Burkeyje Gael.

The sale was conducted by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of, Canterbury, Ltd., the Farmers’ Stud Stock Company and the Canterbury Farmers’ Cooperative Association.
