RATS STILL BREEDING

Plague Nears Tbwn (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, June 1. It is feared that millions of rat® moving down from the far north of South Australia may reach Marree, 400 miles north of Adelaide. The rats, moving in a block 50 miles wide and 150 miles long, have reached three large sheep stations where they have found excellent breeding conditions. A spokesman for Clifton Hills, one of the three stations, said tonight: “They are now among excellent feed, and are multiplying at a tremendous rate.” The chairman of the South Australian Pastoral Board, Mr J. L. Johnson, forecast that the rat plague would not reach the doser-settled country in the south of the state. Previous rat plagues had always died out before reaching more populated areas.
