Leptospirosis Increase <N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 1. Officials of the Departments of Health and Agriculture were investigating the increasing occurrence of leptospirosis—a debilitating influenzatype waterborne disease in rural areas, the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) said' in Parliament today. Mr McKay said an inter-de-partmental committee had been established and was planning a survey in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Northland and Taranaki areas to produce a satisfactory vaccine for control and mass immunisation.

A Health Department official said later that leptospirosis was a disease most commonly found in veterinarians and others who regularly handled animals.
