S.L SOCCER LEAGUE

Decision At Week-end The future of the Southern League soccer competition will probably be decided in Christchurch at the weekend. This was stated last evening by Mr M. W. McKenzie, chairman of the league committee. He was commenting on a report from Dunedin which quoted Mr P. H. Maindonald, secretary of the Otago Football Association, as saying that the league will not be started this season. Mr McKenzie said that the Southland delegate, Mr L. O’Rourke, was in Christchurch, and officials of the Otago F.A. would be travelling to the city for the representative soccer match tomorrow. “We will hold talks to decide what should be done this season,” said Mr McKenzie. The league, one of three area competitions proposed by the N.Z.F.A., was to start on July 8, with two teams each from Southland, Canterbury and Otago. The Dunedin report said that the two main problems appear to be the failure to find a sponsor and that only one of the top four teams in Christchurch is interested in the competition.
