Earlier Date Not Allowed Secondary schools may re open on Monday, February 5 but any earlier date will no’ be accepted as complying with the Education Depart ment regulations, according to a circular received at s meeting of the Christchurch Boys’ High School board oi governors yesterday. The circular said the de partment had received sev eral requests for variation oi the opening date, but the rea sons given did not appear t( justify the setting aside of the basic provisions of th< regulations. "It is mentioned that then could be some pressure foi schools to resume after the long vacation at a date earl ier than February 6. The matter was referred to the headmaster (Mr C. F S. Caldwell) to take whatevei action he saw fit Russian Class.—Mr Cald well reported to the board that the course in Russian had been restarted at the school.
