Extensions To Riccarton Bank
Extensive alterations and additions are being made to the premises of the Riccarton branch of the Bank of New Zealand in Riccarton road. Work began on the 38-week contract at the end of November.
The existing building is 1 being remodelled and extend- 1 ed to provide 5250 sq ft on ' the ground floor. The chamber will cover the greater part of the ground floor and will include manager’s and accountant’s rooms, tellers’ counters, and ledgers, bills and securities departments and a travel department The existing strongroom will be retained and a new book-room and stationery room added. Part of the additions will be two storeys and the new first floor will house a staff recreation room and facilities. The building will be centrally heated. The existing customer car park at the rear has been extended and an exit formed to Rotherham street This allows for one-way traffic from Riccarton road to Rotherham street, so avoiding congestion on Riccarton road. While the work is being done, the bank is doing business in premises at the rear of the site. The contract has been awarded to the Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., and the consulting engineer is
nfr L G. B. Wilson, the quanity surveyors are Messrs iussell, Drysdale and Thomas, and the architect is Mr G. W. Bucknell. The architect’s drawing shows the new premises as they will appear from Riccarton road. The entrance to the car park is on the right
