‘Noble Feat Cheapened’ (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, June 1. The outspoken Conservative columnist in the “Evening News,” the Earl of Arran, wrote yesterday that the British press cover of Sir Francis Chichester’s round-the-world voyage made a case for the press to be nationalised. “I am fed up with Sir Francis Chichester; or rather, I am fed up with seeing him and reading about him. “If ever a noble British achievement has been cheapened and vulgarised, it is this one. The British press, radio and television have excelled themselves in childishness and stupidity. "If this is private enterprise give me state control,” he said.
Film Banned.—Jordan has banned the showing of the film “Khartoum,” Interior Ministry sources raid this was because the film contained scenes and dialogues discrediting the Arabs. Amman, June 1.
