Cold Day The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cold, : with a moderate southwesterly wind and scattered showers. The maximum temperature recorded at Harewood was 45 degrees at noon. At 6 a.m. at Harewood and again at 9 a.m. the temperature was 40 degrees. At 3 p.m. it was 37 degrees. In the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m. the temperature was 40 degrees. The temperature gauge on the Government Life building registered 41 degrees at 4.30 p.m. C.0.R.5.0. Record A record amount of more than £440,000 was raised by C.0.R.5.0. last year, and goods worth more than £1 million were distributed overseas, according to the annual report. Administration costs, including publicity and educational work, amounted to 4.4 per cent of the total income. 40 Trainees The Department of Civil Aviation’s aeronautical college at Christchurch Airport last week had 40 air-traffic controllers under training. The superintendent (Mr J. Irvine) said yesterday that this was the highest number at the college at any one time since 1951. The controllers were all undergoing various stages of training. In September nine more will be added. These are men who were recruited overseas last year. Queen’s Colour The Queen’s Colour, which has been held by the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram since 1965, is now at Ohakea, where it will be officially handed over at a parade tomorrow. Wigram’s colour party, consisting of Flying Officer A. J. Kingsmill and Sergeants L Bright and J. D. Brown, will take part in the ceremony. Wigram has held the Colour for the longest period. It has also held it three times. Cargo Terminal The new international cargo terminal at Christchurch Airport will be handed over to the airport authority this week. Built for just under £30,000 the terminal has a floor area of 8000 sq ft, of which 6000 ft is set aside for bond storage. The cargo building is at the north-east end of the main terminal building. The airport authority will - hand the cargo terminal over to Air New Zealand on June 1. Big Tank Moved An 11,000-gallon tank to ■ hold naphtha was moved to the Moorhouse avenue depot of the Christchurch Gas Company on Tuesday evening. It was finally placed in position ' yesterday morning. The tank, 30ft long and Bft 9in in diameter, weighs five tons and a half. It was built in about two weeks by Ross Irving, Ltd. It was moved the 300 yards to the Moorhouse avenue site by articulated truck.
