Hen And Duck Registration

An appeal to all poultry farmers with 25 or more hens or ducks, and who sell or offer to sell eggs, to register their poultry runs within one month of June 1 for the 1967-68 year, has been made by the chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board (Mr G. L. McLatchie) in Wellington. The registration fee will be 2s 6d for each 100 birds, or part of a 100.

He said that unless registration was paid during June, poultry farmers could be liable to prosecution and the application of an additional weekly penalty. The registration of poultry runs was the only effective method by which present bird flocks, could be determined in the absence of alternative methods of assessing future egg production until the Registration of Hatcheries .Scheme, which had just begun, could provide informative statistics. It was most important that all poultry farmers register as soon as possible and return to the board information which could assist in planning, said Mr McLatchie. An advertisement setting out the requirements for registration appears in today's public notices.
