MAORI LAND
Deputation On Bill
(N.Z. Pre,, Association)
WELLINGTON, May 29. A 40-strong deputation representing the New Zealand Maori Council will tomorrow meet the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Hanan) to discuss the huge Maori Affairs Amendment Bill at present before Parliament. It is understood that the deputation, which will be led by Sir Turi Carroll, will seek a deferment of the bill.
The bill, of some eight parts and 147 sections, is designed to check multiplying problems of Maori land ownership, succession, fragmented titles and uneconomic interests. It is at present being considered by the Maori Affairs Committee of Parliament
The deputation will consist mainly of representatives of the southern and Rotorua tribes.
