Dates Clash Criticised

A decision of the Racing Conference is criticised by the chairman of the Ger* aldine Racing Club, Mr P. F. Finch, in his report on the last year’s activities.

Mr Finch claims that the fall in the club’s off-course turn-over at Its September meeting was “brought about solely by a very poor decision of the Racing Conference In allowing the Cambridge

Jockey Club to race on our day, and a much poorer attitude by the Cambridge Jockey Club in the methods used to achieve their objective." Off-course, the turn-over fell from £88,334 to £57,164. The meeting drew excellent fields and was most successful, the. on-course turn-over increasing from £28,450 to £30,240.

Mr Finch records his appreciation of the excellent support from owners and trainers for the meeting held at Washdyke this year. The success of this meeting had been a great satisfaction to th* club, which increased the

stakes for th* year from £4770 to £5620.

The report said that the club’s finances were healthy, with assets exceeding liabilities by £10,776. While the profit shows in the accounts was £214, the actual position was really considerably better because the T.A.B. dividend, although earned in the 1966-67 financial year, was not paid until next season; the excellent offcourse turn-over for the club's April meeting did not show in this year’s figures but would be a handsome start for the new aeason, the report said.
