JUDGE NAMED
Mr j. B. Thomson, S.M., of Wellington, has been appointed an additional Judge of the Court of Arbitration from June 1, the Press Assocition reports. Mr Thomson was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1926 and practised in Dunedin from 1926 to 1951, when he was appointed stipendiary magistrate in Wellington. Since his appointment as magistrate Mr Thomson served for several years as chairman of the Waikeria, Arohata and Invercargill Parole Boards. He is chairman of the Arohata Parole Board and a member of the Prisons’ Parole Board. Mr Thomson is also chairman of the Criminal Compensation Tribunal, the Copyright Tribunal and the Local Government Appeal Authority. The Minister of labour (Mr Shand) said he was certain that Mr Thomson, with his broad experience and recognised ability, would command the confidence of all parties who appeared before the Court of Arbitration.
