UNQUALIFIED CREW

Investigation Of Report (From Out Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, May 26. The Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) said today that a recent report of a crayfishing vessel sailing to the Chatham Islands without properly qualified crew was being investigated by the Marine Department. Similar investigations would be made by the department into any other such reports. Should these investigations reveal breaches of the Shipping and Seamen Act, prosecutions would be instituted, said the Minister. Mr Scott said the law was established to ensure the safety of life and property at sea and he viewed very seriously any such alleged offences.
