“Terrible Shambles”

Beer bottles were hurled through the windows of the Bedford Chambers, in Bedford row, on to the street during a party on Friday evening. The floor of the room was strewn with broken beer and spirits bottles and glasses, tables were overturned, there were bloodstains on the floor, the kitchen floor was covered with water and a gas heater was smashed.

“The place was a terrible shambles,” said the caretaker, Mr R. Stapleton, last evening. Before a 21st birthday party was held at the chambers on Saturday evening his daughter and Mr and Mrs V. Hayward spent several hours cleaning the place up. The birthday party on Saturday was for Mr and Mrs Hayward’s son.

While the place was being cleaned up a girl arrived and asked his daughter if she had found a purse containing £25, iMr Stapleton said.
