Old Gas Lamp

Sir, —It was my understanding that the last gas lamp in Christchurch, on the corner of Oxford terrace and Worcester street, was to he lit every night For at least the last month, this lamp has not been lit Could the City Council explain why? .If the lamb is not to be lit, it seems rather pointless keeping it.—Yours, etc., R. J. THORNE. May 22, 1967. [The Town Clerk of Christchurch (Mr C. S. Bowie) replies: “This lamp was restored by the Canterbury Club and is under the club's control. I am advised that it awaits the replacement of a broken mantle.”]
