Horse Boxes At Riccarton

Sir, —To the selfish residents of Racecourse road I would like to say that they, too, benefit from racing. What taxes would they pay if it were not for racing? They should have thought about flies, etc., before moving to Riccarton, which has always been a training centre. Living on a racing establishment all my life, I have never had trouble with flies. Fly sprays are plentiful, and cleanliness prevents flies. It would be lovely to have a park with some of the “little horrors” running wild, disturbing horses returning from the track. Of all the land available in Canterbury, why adjoining Riccarton racecourse? Why kill the industry that lays the golden egg for all members of the community? —Yours, etc.. LET LIVE. May 27, 1967.
