Couple For Trial
(N.Z. Press Association) KAIKOHE, May 26. Mane Kiri Tahere, aged 41, a carpenter's labourer, and his 40-year-old wife, Pitihi (also known as Tilly) Tahere, both of Kaikohe, were committed today to the Auckland Supreme Court by Messrs W. Lomax and D. W. Gallagher, Justices of the Peace, for trial on- a charge of attempting to murder Dr. Manahi Nitama Paewai at Kaikohe on April 10. Accused, who were not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty at the end of a seven-hour hearing during which 12 police witnesses were heard. At the request of the prosecutor Detective Sergeant W. N. Robertson, of Whangarei, both will be held in custody until the Supreme Court hearing.
