PUPPIES AND BLINDNESS
(Spnial Crrpdt. N.Z.T.A.) SYDNEY, May 25. Playing with puppies can cause eye and brain damage in children, Australian parents were warned this week. “In recent years it has become known that the common roundworm of the dog can cause serious illness in children, particularly toddlers,” Mr J. H. Arundel, a senior lecturer at the Melbourne university of Veterinary Science, said. Mr Arundel said children should not fondle young puppies or a nursing bitch unless the dog had been adequately treated for worms. Puppies should not be allowed in the house unless they are house trained, as they pass large numbers of worm eggs from as young as three weeks.
