BISCUIT WORKERS
Rises In New Award Shift rates had been increased by 6i to 6s, for the New Zealand Biscuit and Confectionery Workers’ Award, said the secretary of the Canterbury Biscuit Workers Union (Mr L. C. J. Southon). Complete agreement had been reached in conliliation in Wellington, he said. The worker io charge io the biscuit department would have his minimum weekly rate increased from £l6 16s 8d to £lB ss. Mr Southon said that this increase included the 2i per cent general wage order increase.
Rates for adult males, excluding the 2} per cent would increase by 19s lid for skilled workers, by 17s for semiskilled, and by 15s 3d for all other adult male workers. Female workers would receive an increase of 10s 2d excluding the 2J per cent. For continuous service with the same employer, a worker would be entitled to two weeks’ extra holiday leave after 20 years, three weeks after 30 years, and five weeks after 40 years. The new award has yet to be ratified by the court.
