Fijian Criticism Refuted
(New Zealand Press Atiociatlon) WELLINGTON. Accusations from Fiji that the New Zealand Rugby Union is not willing to help Fijian Rugby were denied yesterday by the chairman of the NJS.R.F.U. executive (Mr T. C. Morrison).
Suva's daily newspaper this week criticised the N.Z.R.F.U. for its unfavourable reaction to allowing France and Wales to stop off in Fiji after short tours of New Zealand in 1968 and 1969. ' Mr Momson said that it i Wts hardly fair to expect three countries to share games in such a short tour, i “The tour by Wales comes I under the category of a short i tour with the maximum of i five games,” said Mr Morri- ; son, "but since th* N.Z.R.F.U. felt it would be helping Ausi trails, permission was sought : and granted for a sixth match, ; this one to be played in Aus- , tralia.” i The tour by France next , season totals 15 games—l2 in - New Zealand and two in Ausi tralia.” . The N.Z.R.F.U. will bear all
the costs except the internal expenses of both teams in Australia. Mr Morrison said that his union had, in the past, assisted Fijian Rugby and would continue to do so.
