N.Z. BOATS SET CLASS RECORDS
Three New Zealand speedboats have this year become the fastest craft in their respective classes in Australasia.
Th* secretary of the New Zealand Speedboat Association (Mr B. M. Andrews, of Christchurch) yesterday confirmed records set by Bel Air (P. Knight, Christchurch), Moonshot II (J. Keig, Jun.) and Foo Ling (J. Rae, Invercargill). Bel Air holds the Australasian record for the 155 cu. in. hydroplane class at 109.119 m.p.h. This is only 2 m.p.h. slower than the world record set in the United States this year. Knight will compete in the world championships at Vaileyfiald, near Montreal, in July. Ha Will be racing in the 150 cu. in elass. Beet In Seven Clames Moonshot H hold* the Australasian record for the fastest (unlimited) outboard at 90,932 m.p.h. It also holds five Australian clans records with the same speed, and two New Zealand class records. Foo Ling holds the record for being fastest racing run-
about (v-bottom) outboard at 64.84 m.ph. Moonshot 11, in achieving 90.932 m.p.h., raised the New Zealand record by 17 m.p.h., and Knight improved the New Zealand record by 12 m.p.h. A third New Brighton Power Boat Club driver, R. Prattley, still holds the Australasian record for B class outboard hydroplane* at 71.46 mp.h.
