Fight For Hill Inside Zone
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, May 26. United States Marines today fought North Vietnamese regulars in a continuing battle inside the southern half of the demilitarised zone, a military spokesman said today.
The spokesman said two Marine battalions returned to the former neutral zone yesterday to assault a large force firing on them from fortified bunkers on Hill 117. Reports put the North Vietnamese dead at 41 with the Marines still fighting for the hill about half a mile inside the southern part of the zone. About 10,000 Marines and Government troops had earlier withdrawn from the southern half of the zone after a three-pronged assault eight days ago to destroy base camps and Viet Cong positions. The spokesman said the
latest fighting began at dawn yesterday when a unit of the 26th Marine Regiment came under fire.
