Commissioner Appointed '
(N.I. Fret, Attaciatlon) WELLINGTON, May 26. Mr D. A Stevens has been appointed Commissioner of Inland Revenue by the State Services Commission. He succeeds the late Mr L. J. Rathgen. At present Chief Deputy Commissioner, Mr 1 Stevens joined the public service in 1935 in tiie Land and Income Tax Department at Wellington. He became district commissioner st Palmerston North in 1959. The next year he was appointed district commissioner at Christchurch, and became District Commissioner of Inland Revenue in Wellington in 1962. He was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revenue tn 1963, and Chief Deputy Commissioner in 1965. Mr Stevens has lectured and written on taxation and, as a deputy commissioner, has ployed a major part in the general administration of the department, especially in framing policy, and planning and Introducing new techniques.
