U.S. ADVISERS TORTURED
<N.Z. Press Association—Copyright? QUANG TRI, May 25. Two United States military advisers have been tortured, mutilated and killed by North Vietnamese troops, a Marine officer disclosed today, the “New York Times” news service reported.
One was shot through the head while his arms were tied behind his back.
The other was apparently crucified, then slashed across the face and back. The throats of both were cut. Details of the incidents were disclosed by Major William Shearer, a staff adviser to the first regiment of South Vietnam’s Ist Infantry Division.
On Saturday, he took part in a 14-hour battle at the village of Ngoxadong, three miles from Quaag Tri. The fighting raged in and
around a Roman Catholic church in the village. Two nuns who had fled from the church had reported that two men were tied in the bell tower.
