CHANNEL TUNNEL
Financiers To Submit Plans (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, May 24. The first positive step towards building the Channel tunnel was taken on Monday when the British and French Governments announced that three groups of international financiers had been asked to submit proposals for providing the money. In February the two Governments invited international groups to put forward ideas for financing the construction of the under-sea tunnel linking Britain and France, expected to cost about £l7O million, plus £3O million for loan charges and other expenses. From the many applications received, the Ministries of Transport of the two Governments have now prepared a short list of three groups, each of whom is being asked to give fuller details of their proposals
It is pi.-nned that the tunnel will be completed and open to traffic by 1975.
