Rewarded For Action
Miss O. Beaumont, of the pharmaceutical department at the Christchurch Hospital will receive a £5 fire-preven-tion award for giving the alarm and calling help when she noticed a fire in the splint department locker room last August. A report to the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday said that Miss Beaumont put herself out, while on the way home, to find the cause of a smell of burning. In this area was the hospital’s greatest fire hazard, where an outbreak could involve the whole rear portion. “This very meritorious action reflects the good work in educating the staff by the fire officer (Mr W. A. Clarke),” said Mr E. A. Bennett.
