Hall To Serve As Church
A Roman Catholic church hall, which will also serve for some time as a church, will be opened in Cotswold avenue, Bishopdale, on June 18, by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby). The hail will seat 500. It will have a supper room, and a sanctuary area which can be cut off from the main hall when not in use for church services. The parish priest, the Rev. Father J. Curnow, said that the parish had begun a planned-giving scheme to pay for the hall and to provide for future development in the Wairakei-Bishopdale area. It was planned to raise £30,000 to provide a church, presbytery and convent.
