TV Sewer Check
Closed-circuit ■ television equipment to inspect sewers was approved by the Christchurch Drainage Board on Tuesday evening. Mr P. J. McWilliam, the chief engineer, said the equipment gave a clear view of the condition of pipelines and the nature and location of faults. It was of great assistance in d~termining the extent of work necessary to maintain sewers. Sewers in the older areas were requiring increased attention and many possibly needed renewal in the not to distant future. Television equipment allowed a thorough investigation of the pipes, and avoided unnecessary disturbances of high-class road surfaces. Mr, McWilliam estimated the cost at £5500 for the equipment and £lBOO for a suitable van and fitting the equipment. An electronics technician would be required to operate the equipment.
