Water Polo School ‘Big Success’
The great success of the New Zealand Water Polo Board’s recent coaching school, sponsored by Rothman’s, at the Moana Pool, Dunedin, should ensure its continuance in future.
The school director, Mr N. R. Chambers, of Christchurch said yesterday that one of the c-r dies, Mr W. H. Dyson, considered the school the best he had attended, both for the young players and the provincial coaches. It was planned that the school be held each year and the suggestion had been put forward—by players—that a trip to Australia could follow the school.
As regards the future, it was Mr Chambers’s own wish that the squad should be kept
together as far as possible in succeeding years. Mr Chambers thought the balance between the theory and practical sections of the school was well arranged and the lectures on actual play—ball handling, systems of play, etc.—were reinforced by films, some as recent as the Tokyo Olympics. Of the squad of 16 originally chosen, 11 attended, these including replacements for players not available. The Otago contingent of five withdrew from the school but joined as observers halfway through.
