With some resolute batting, the Indian touring team had already gone most of the way towards saving its match with the M.C.C. at Lord’s on Tuesday when rain, which set in 15 minutes before lunch, washed out play on the third and final day. By then the Indians had reached 108 for two, a lead of 31. Scores: India 134 and 108/2, M.C.C. 211. Yorkshire Triumphs Results of other matches were:—; At Pontypridd: Glamorgan 62/3 v. Gloucestershire (match abandoned). At Worcester: Somerset 80 and 112 (L. Coldwell 5/64) lost to Worcestershire 185 ana 8/0 by 10 wickets. Worcestershire 12 points. At Oxford: Middlesex 335/9 dec., and 122/2 dec. beat Oxford University 89 and 99 (F. J. Titmus 5/17), by 269 runs. At Bradford: Nottinghamshire 159/5 dec. and 52/0 dec. lost to Yorkshire 62/3 dec. and 150/5, by five wickets. Yorkshire eight points. Nottinghamshire four. At Ilford: Essex 159 and 169 <D. P. Shackleton 7/37) lost to Hampshire 311/7 dec. and 14/1 by nine wickets. Hampshire 12 points. At Gravesend: Kent 375/6 dec. drew with Northamptonshire 173 (D. Underwood 6/72, A. Dixon 4 / 70) and 29/0. Kent six points. Northamptonshire two.
Winger Cited.— One of Australia’s top Rugby League wingers, K. Irvine, is to appear before the New South Wales Rugby League judiciary committee next Monday night. The committee cited Irvine to appear before it after a referee, Mr L. Bruyeres. reported on remarks Irvine allegedly made to him during a game on Sunday. Added to Trial.—Mrs E Cowdell (Whangarei) has been added to the list of trialists from which the New Zealand women’s hockey team to travel to Germany for the world tournament will be selected.
