No More Horse Mrs E. A. Lanauze, who for more than 10 years has done her district-nurse round by horseback on Pitt Island (one of the Chathams group), had medical treatment recently. “She doesn’t feel she can carry on with the horse. I don’t know whether there is a car on the island, but the allowance will help. The roads aren’t much good, either,” said the chairman (Dr. L. C. L. Averill), when the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday decided to pay Mrs Lanauze a mileage allowance. Ship Named The name Britannic has been chosen by the Shaw Savill and Albion Line for its new 12,590-ton freighter. A sister to the Majestic, now in service, she will be completed late this year. The Britannic will revive the name of two former White Star Line ships. She will not carry passengers.—(P.A.). Fund To Close

The Strongman mine disaster fund is to close officially at the end of this month, although donations will still be received after that date. The fund was opened by the mayors of Greymouth and Runanga on January 20, the day after the explosion which killed 19 miners. The fund is administered by the District Public Trustee (Mr K. R. Balch) and a meeting of administrators will be held to complete arrangements for its closure.—(F.O.O.R.). TV Set Given In appreciation of the work done in ward Al at the Princess Margaret Hospital, a former patient, Mr W. Watkins, had given a television set, the North Canterbury Hospital Board was told yesterday.
